The Concept

A Bar Where the Floor Speaks Loudest

Buen is envisioned as a bar garden where the floor becomes the primary medium of expression — a walkable artwork that defines the space in the absence of walls and ceilings. A previously barren roof deck was raised to align with the mezzanine entry, creating a vast open terrace where the ground plane shapes identity and movement.

Crafted as an art installation, the terrazzo floor unfolds through fluid geometries, intuitive patterns, and earthy tones. Guided by steel inlays, each pour is expressive and tactile — blurring the line between architecture and art.

Walking on Art

This space reimagines the floor as an immersive artwork — a tactile, walkable exhibition that blurs the line between architecture and art. The composition uses in-situ terrazzo not as a background element, but as the protagonist — layered with intentional geometries, architectural fragments, and earthy tones that echo both mid-century abstraction and Indian craft traditions.

Situated in the heart of South Delhi, this 5000 sq.ft hospitality project is an ode to art. The project stands at the intersection of landscape, sculpture, and built form. Framed by a minimal glass atrium, the space opens into an outdoor arena where terrazzo flows uninterrupted — from threshold to terrace — dissolving traditional boundaries.

The design draws from the principle of clean architectural forms, allowing the artful floor to breathe and command attention, while the surrounding structures remain elemental, textural, and restrained.

Material Story

Terrazzo as Terrain & Reflections

The in-situ terrazzo is handcrafted on site, emphasizing process over perfection. Crushed aggregates, muted pigments, and curated stone chips have been carefully cast into a patchwork that resembles a large-scale abstract painting — layered in sienna reds, olive greens, dusty pinks, and charcoal greys, paying homage to both modernist art and the mineral tones of Indian soil.

Each terrazzo pour is laid as a gesture, defined by steel strips and a meticulous rhythm of curves, angles, and contrasts — intuitive yet structured, like walking across a canvas mid-creation.

Inside, ripple sheets on the ceiling add movement and shimmer that mirrors the fluidity of the floor below. Outside, the bar counter's seamless reflective surface — almost like liquid chrome — captures and extends the floor's patterns into infinity, while peachy-hued glass bricks cast a soft glow that harmonizes with the terrazzo's earthy tones.

Sequence & Movement

From Pathway to Pause

This is not just a route — it's a ceremonial passage. The terrazzo guides the user into a layered sequence of spaces: casual outdoor lounges, planter pockets, sculptural seating, and a dramatic focal sculpture at the far end. The space invites movement and stillness, allowing the user to either traverse or linger.

The surrounding architecture, with its raw edges, muted walls, and brise soleil screens, is purposefully kept monolithic — offering a counterpoint to the ground's vivid articulation. Potted greens, brass rails, and terrazzo-wrapped plinths enhance the tactile experience without disrupting the visual purity of the composition.
